The Word is Getting Out

Currently Craving: Milk

I work at three different yoga places. One is a yoga studio, one is a pilates studio adding yoga, and one is a gym that has yoga. As the fates would have it this week all three of them had staff meetings. and since i'm nearing the end of the first trimester but still suffering through some rough afternoons i decided this i the week to spill the beans to the jobs. waiting any longer might arouse suspicion as i suddenly start to pack on the pounds. "why's my yoga teacher so fat???" "Man, she must not practice what she teaches any more...."

Wednesday was the pilates studio. we got to the end of the meeting and she asked for any more thoughts and i just raised my hand and blurted it out 'i'm pregnant' and since it is a room full of women they all shrieked and gave me hugs. they genuinely seemed happy for me. i got the good advice to stop teaching beginners (because you have to do so much demonstrating) later in the pregnancy. but two of the pilates teachers recently had babies and they said they taught right up to the due date. sounds fine with me.

Thursday was the gym. i caught my boss and told her and she congratulated me and then told me there was someone else in the group who was pregnant (i don't know her). she was expecting at least one of her other women employees to come in and tell her soon. so then we're sitting in the meeting and my boss decides to start the meeting by announcing our pregnancies and we're both sitting right next to each other. she turns to me and asks my due date and turns out she's October 11th too. as she said "january was a good month, nothing else to do..."

Friday (today) was the yoga center. I'd been trying to catch my bosses there all week but every time i came by they were out. so today i walked in and one boss was sitting at the desk, nobody else around and i told her. she got SOOOO excited, came around the desk to hug me. made me tell the next teacher to walk through the door. then after the meeting the second boss was there and she was even more excited than the first big BIG hug and then all the other teachers were around and were giving me their congratulations.

So. it's fun. this weekend we'll tell the extended family. and then for me pretty much everybody will know.... except my online friends. it's this weird new predicament of the 21st century. i'm friends or i should say still friends with a lot of people via mySpace and Facebook. people that i might usually have lost track of are staying on my radar because we have these social networking sites. i've been talking a lot about girl scout cookies and dancing with the stars with them lately..... so now i'll have to decide how to let the news out to them. but now it's at least a little bit more fun. and no more hiding... i can go to yoga class and spend 50% of the time in child's pose and the teacher won't mind or be surprised one bit. hooray!
