Snow Day!!

Not two weeks ago it started snowing while Sabine was in for nap and I was practicing yoga. It was actually a thundersnow -- where a thunderstorm came on and suddenly snow started falling instead of rain. I ran into her room and got her out of bed (she wasn't sleeping) and took her straight to the window because I knew it was only going to last a few minutes. I figured it would be her only chance to see any snow all year. Since then the conversation has gone like this: "Mom, what do you want to talk about?.... I want to talk about snow" and then we've talked all about snow.

Luckily the weather goddess had some goodness left for us. Yesterday afternoon the flakes started to come down and just cover the ground. It picked up in the night and this morning we woke to about 3" on the ground. Sunny weather and a relatively warm day, plus because it's Presidents' Day her school was already planning to be on holiday so I didn't have to scramble to re-arrange plans. YES! And it'll all be gone by tomorrow, so no missed days. Hooray!

This morning was a family outing into the snow to do all the things she's dreamed of:

End of Summer Wrap Up #3

One of Sabine's favorite things this summer was being at our local pool. We joined the Lewis Ginter Recreation Association last year and have enjoyed being at the pool as often as we can. It's nice to see neighbors out and about and to feel connected to community just by being there.

This year we found out that Sabine was finally tall enough to stand on her own in the big pool which was a huge benefit from last year when we had to hold her the whole time. She enjoyed going deeper and deeper - up to her neck even- to try to chase down her inflatable ring. She also really loved it when Max made waves with her kick-board "kickboard waves!!"

Here she is on the last day of being at the pool this summer:

Some of her favorite things to do in the pool included: being "spinny dog" which meant she would hop in circles saying spinny dog spinny dog (this is from a pup in our neighborhood who used to bark and spin in circles whenever Tyco would walk by). She also loved playing Ruby from the TV show Max and Ruby. She did syncronized swimming and called it the water lily (after something on the show) when she would first put her face in the water (hooray!) and then lay on her back in her ring and kick her legs high in the air.

A few times we had our act together really well and took dinner to the pool which Sabine seemed to like pretty well. She didn't like it when the flies came to visit OR the day when the wind kicked up and a storm was definitely brewing. But she did like hanging out on the lounge chairs with us for about five minutes then it was back to the water... no matter how purple her lips were.

You'd think she probably watches these shows all the time but i swear she totally doesn't. she just LOVES them very very much and appears to learn well just by hearing things. go figure!

Here is Sabine's take on a having a dance party. We were on stage waiting for the Sesame Street show to get started one evening. Round and round and round we go....

Princess Dancing

Here is some of how we spend our days on these very cold days lately. Princess Dancing is one of the favorite activities. Sabine puts on her princess dress from Izzy (thank you) and then runs around my office to Vivaldi's the Four Seasons. All pieces must be there for it to officially be princess dancing. In this video she'd suddenly become a frog and is teaching me how to be a frog too. That is followed by some dancing and then some princess karate to finish up. This is one tough princess!

Ok, we're WAY behind on updating with milestones big and small. Sabine officially started crawling around thanksgiving. here is a little video of her in action around that time. the end is very sweet.

And the final video from vacation... sabine took over one of the pool tables and used her skills to shoot some pool and then play some music with the pool balls. in the beginning it's like she's trying to ask the magic 8 ball a question. hmmm... wonder what she wants to know.

max might be out of a job if even a BABY can shoot video this well. he seriously didn't help her with holding or framing the camera at all, he just ducked his head into frame when she lowered it. this is from us just hanging out in the room before dinner or something..... a little family silliness

Dancing on stage

Here is a short video of sabine on stage before the 'kid's dance party' one night while we were away. she was really digging being up there with all the crazy kids. you can see her doing her walking holding only one of my fingers. when she swings the other arm max calls it swashbuckling so we've got some of that there. and at the end she breaks it down just a bit.

She Likes It!

She took a few minutes to come around but i think she likes the snow pretty well. if the temperature was higher she'd probably be even happier but she liked being carried around and seeing tyco out there all in the snowy white.

SNOW!

THis is from about 6:30 last night, the snow had just started falling. sorry there isn't much sabine in it... i'm not the camera person in the family. this morning we woke up to about 8 inches and they're calling for more. we're headed out right now to do a little exploring. more video to come (hopefully)

Jump! Jump!

So here's what's been fun around here lately... our friends loaned us their bouncy thingy and Sabine is having a wonderful time at it. the hip doctor recommended letting her stand on her legs so we figure this is helping strengthen legs and hips even more because you can see how much effort she puts into bouncing around. it is very cute in person i should say. (oh, and if you're wondering, she's rocking out to MC Yogi, rapping about ganesha... which really cracks me up)
