Currently Craving: Grapefruit
We had our appointment with our midwife on Friday. it was interesting and very good. i'll fill you in on that a little later. While we were there we learned some interesting things we might never have known before. Such as
did you know:
when a woman is pregnant her brain shrinks by 7%? i had no idea. so she's walking around in a cloud for the full nine months PLUS six more before it's all back to normal. and particularly affected is short term memory. so if i can't remember anything you tell me it's not because i'm crazy... my BRAIN is shrinking
Pregnant women get super clumsy. i knew that already and am feeling it. then in a few weeks the hormone relaxin will start kicking in and my joints will get loose so then i'll be even more clumsy. add to that an expanding size that doesn't match the size i am in my head and then we're really out sorts. i'll be bumping into everything!
The woman is most likely to deliver a baby about the birth weight of the man.. (we don't know max's birth weight) especially for the first baby
The baby's head is more likely to be shaped like the father's. (again most for first baby i think) so it's good that i've got Irish background because that gives me wide hips, making it easier to birth a baby. and we checked out max's head shape. pretty darn good. NOT huge so that's nice.
And the midwife thought is that a woman can deliver a baby one pound more than the shoe size. so since i wear size 9, i could probably safely deliver a 10 pound baby (especially with max's narrow head)
A woman is more likely to labor and deliver like her sister than her mother. so Liz, i'm paving the way and figuring out what it'll be like for both of us. i expect a BIG thank you for this!

Rest easy...Max was born a perfect 7lbs 6oz and 20" long. Thank goodness his feet were alot smaller then!!!

Oh Good! i'm glad you found the site finally. and i'm REALLY glad Max was a good size. i was right about there too at 7lbs 12oz. that's a manageable baby i think. : )
If it makes you feel any better also, I was 8 lbs. 6.5 oz and 22 inches, and John was 8 lbs. 7 oz and 20 inches, but Cillian was only 7 lbs. 9.8 oz. and 20 inches at one week overdue, and with my gaining 35 pounds during the pregnancy. You can never really guess these things!!
Great! things are looking good for this bebe. and Congrats to you and John. i'm really happy for you. sounds like we'll only be a few weeks apart.
yes, I am officially due on 9/20. However, I am guessing if things go naturally, this one will also be late. Therefore, if you have your baby at 36-38 weeks, like everyone else I have known in the past 4 years, then we could be at the same time, or you could be earlier!!
