Showing or Not Showing?

Currently Craving: More chocolate in my life

I guess i'd say i'm still in the awkward phase. if you didn't know i was pregnant, then depending on what i was wearing you might not realize anything much was going on. but i've been getting some interesting comments from people who do know i'm pregnant and DO know i'm a first time mom.

Mainly it's divided into two camps. "WOW You're really showing." and "Gosh you don't look pregnant at all." this can generally be decided by whether or not i'm wearing yoga clothes.

Yoga Friend a few weeks ago: "you're showing! can i touch your belly?" sure, only she doesn't realize she's really touching my guts because Babe is a lot lower than that. then she says to yoga boss "we're just checking out her belly" and yoga boss takes a look then says : "that's what my stomach looks like every day!"

Yoga Student a few weeks ago: "Wow, you're really starting to show." me: "well i'm more than 4 months now" Her: "well, this is a first baby right? a lot of people don't start to show until into 6 months or more" (well, doesn't that just make you feel like a fat lady. i'm thinking she must be from the 1970s school of weight gain when mothers were only allowed 15 pounds at most. As Jenny McCarthy says "it's not 1972 anymore!!!)

All the ladies at the bridal shower a few weeks ago: "you're pregnant?" look to my stomach. "you'd never even know"

My Little Brother (from Big Bro Big Sisters) a few weeks ago under his breath "you're getting fat, you need to hit the gym." then to me "do you work out? do you exercise?" i haven't told him about this because he hasn't asked and i didn't figure out what he was saying at this time until after the fact.

Yoga Friend last week: "you're about halfway?? (glance at my stomach) you're so small, you look great! with my first i gained so much weight i looked horrible!"

Max the other night: "Ok, you seriously have a cute pregnant belly now"

Yoga Friend today "you don't look pregnant, you kind of just look like you're getting fat"

Different Yoga Boss today "I see your belly. SO CUTE!"

And i've been getting a few double takes from people we are friendly with but don't particularly know. like our neighbors. we were walking tyco the other day and max said "she looked again, i think she's trying to figure it out, you won't be hiding it much longer"

So that's where we are.... somewhere between 'not pregnant at all' 'sort of fat' and 'what a cute belly'

i've gained weight (obviously) but not to a point where i've never been before. in the next month or so the scale should start to go up into a whole new range of numbers and i can say i'm not excited about that. but i am excited about our Babe and for her it will be worth it.

The things people say are unbelievable, so just get prepared--this is only the beginning! I also would have one person say, "you look small" for however far along I was, and then other people saying, "Wow, you're only THAT far along?" Toward the end, I just didn't leave the house. Even the checkout ladies in the grocery store when I was buying my cravings would say things like, "Haven't you had that baby yet?" or "You should be at home in bed." It's just wild. Enjoy it, because it will fly by and having a pregnant body is wild but temporary. It's both beautiful and difficult at the same time. I also got lots of flack from my Aunt who was from the old school and gained only 18 pounds for her pregnancy. My midwife said that was probably very damaging to the babies, which made me feel better for gaining like 50 pounds. :)
