Nesting?

Currently Craving: Nothing, i just ate

A few weeks ago at the Packtastic Birthday Party i was talking with my cousin mary beth and she asked me if i am nesting yet. and i said no, not really. i have some lists of things to do but i really haven't done too much.

but that got me thinking.... maybe i should be nesting. or at least i should be working on those projects i hope to have finished before the Babe arrives. so after a week of pretty much laying around on my bum watching movies and eating to compensate for being the hostess with the mostess the week before, i finally got my act in gear to get re-started on projects that are halfway done at this point.

now, i am often told by others 'you are so organized' and i am ALWAYS surprised when people say this. is that really true? i don't think so. but this first project may prove me wrong. for the past few years i've had a subscription to Cooking Light magazine (which i highly recommend by the way) and i haven't thrown out a single issue. and i haven't tossed them because it's all good stuff with good ideas and we use them over and over. so this week i finished the project i started at least a month ago of tearing out our favorite recipes and others that looked good and putting them into plastic sheet protectors and organizing them into a binder. i really hate to admit that because even i think it sounds really anal. but it did free up a LOT of space in our pantry. the organization of the binders is awesome so now i can locate shrimp recipes and not bump into cookie recipes in the looking. and max actually complemented me several times on this task so i guess he doesn't think i'm insane with this project. i think it will make me happy. AND i figure when my mom comes after Babe is here we can just give her the binder and let her go to town. all of it will be good, all of it will be good for us, and she won't have to bake and bake and bake for us.

My other nesting task involves quilting. i started quilting one weekend when max was at the track and i had nothing to do. it was during our wedding planning phase. i was slightly obsessed with wedding planning (not in a bridezilla way, i think) and so i decided i needed a project that would go on past the wedding and i started making a quilt. since then i have completed two queen-sized quilts for friends who have gotten married and one crib one for my niece. Sadly, that first one i started is very close to being completed but isn't there yet. so now with Babe on the way i have some quilt projects i want to finish.... a queen quilt for another friend.... a wall hanging quilt for Babe's room.... that first quilt i started so i can get it done.... and i've recently bought fabric for a crib sized quilt for Babe. (yes, i know, no quilts actually covering her while she sleeps in a crib, that's what sleep sacks are for). At this point it could be possible to get them all done i think. the queen is going really quickly and in a moment of delusion this week while i was working i thought i might get it done this weekend but seeing as how i'm going to be social all weekend, not going to happen. The big hold up is the wall hanging because it's all applique and then really should be hand quilted for it to look beautiful. yeouch... that could take a while. so we'll see. i might have to send that out to someone professional to hand quilt it if i can get the top done quickly. since we are planning to use it in her room as a wall hanging asap i DO really need to work on it. hopefully it will come together eventually This is what our guest room looks like when i take it over with quilting projects. on top are some squares from my friend's quilt and underneath is the stars and moons wall hanging quilt that will eventually hang in her room. hopefully.

as far as other nesting projects go. eh. not much yet. i got all my pictures from Bali last summer into a photo album. and otherwise we have ideas about what furniture we want. and we'll get to that eventually. we haven't started setting up a nursery yet. we've got houseguests spread through the summer and once that's done at the end of july then we can tear down the guest room and start making it baby central. until then i'll have to be satisfied with ridiculous organization projects and quilting until my back can't stand it any more.
