Dresser Project

Currently Craving: For the Love of Chocolate (yes, the whole store!)

Yesterday we did a "get Ready for Babe to come" project. we hauled the dresser that was in my room as a little girl out of the basement and into the backyard for a facelift.
Tyco came to help...

the BEFORE photo really doesn't reveal the amount of just plain dirt that was on the thing to be sure. Max described it to friends last night as "shabby chic... but more shabby than chic."

To get it cleaned up, Max decided to sand it with the hand-sander that he uses on the cars. luckily this seemed to work fine. our one hang up was that when he went to actually sand the dresser (not the drawers) it felt like the dresser was coated in wax. i called my dad to find out if he had any suggestions and he didn't know anything except a guess that it was covered in oil based paint. So max went back to work...

a little while later it was ready for painting. about that time my parents called to say they recommended using oil based paint because it had been 'antiqued' in the past with oil based paint. only, we didn't get that message because we were outside in the garage. instead we used latex paint and it seems to have done pretty well.
