Yoga Moms who Rock!

Currently Craving: The Beach (i am in count down mode)

Part of being pregnant is that i have been forced to change and adapt my yoga practice and my yoga teaching because of this changing body. I know that this is temporary, but that it's also a good exercise for getting ready for being a mother of a baby. because, guess what, some how i don't think i'm going to have the hours on end to devote to my yoga practice, reading, pranayama, meditation, class planning etc. anymore once Babe arrives. Part of me has been pretty sad about that at times, and pretty pessimistic... like 'I'LL NEVER PRACTICE YOGA AGAIN' but then i look around and am completely inspired by some of the yoga moms that i know or know of who completely rock.

Vicki she is my former yoga teacher. i first met her when she was coming back to teaching 10 weeks after having her first baby. i don't remember thinking that she was in any way limited in her practice. and since then it seems to me that she can do any and every pose with great skill and beauty. plus she teaches a fabulous class when she's teaching (only these days she's working full time instead, bummer)

Karen a fabulous vinyasa teacher at yoga source (where i work too). she also took time off to have her first baby almost two years ago and when she came back she still had a beautiful and strong practice. she seems completely grounded and normal despite being a stay-at-home mom and yoga teacher full time. she still has so much spirit and love to offer to her classes. (in other words, her baby didn't eat her soul)

Sandra she was my teacher training teacher. she has five kids and didn't even start her yoga practice until in her forties. then she moved way up in the Iyengar system (really hard yoga system) and was still going strong as my teacher trainer as a grandmother in her 70s. that's serious commitment to yoga.

at the last yoga workshop i met several moms who were so encouraging that yoga doesn't die just because kids come around. one of them helpfully reminded me that the practice comes and goes sometimes with the kids. sometimes there's more time to practice sometimes there's less but it doesn't make it any more or less valuable. you just ride the wave and go with it and know that in the leaner times, it won't be that way forever.

but my ULTIMATE yoga mom inspiration has to be Desiree Rumbaugh . she is an certified Anusara teacher and is friggin' amazing in her practice. granted, she isn't a mom of young kids at this point and she isn't married so from afar it would seem that she has a lot of freedom to devote to practicing yoga at this point, but maybe that's not true. you can check her out here on You Tube (ok the link isn't working right now, i'll try to fix it). Please check it out because she rules!!! (if anyone out there knows how to actually just put the video into the blog post could you comment to me and let me know. i don't know how. arg!) but anyways she is the woman in the pink top and navy pants. max said "that lady is showing off" but i told him, no, she's the teacher. anyways all of those poses she's leading i pretty much can't do but i figure she's almost 50, i've got 20 or so years to learn them.

Hello - on the page of the video you're looking at there should be a copy-able link on the right hand side where all the info about it is. It is right below the date added and it says in super light grey "Embed." When you paste the link into Blogger, instead of copying the link into where you normally type your post, click the Edit HTML tab and paste it there. You can click Preview to make sure it works right. Hopefully these instructions are correct! :)
