BLOG NOTE: i added a link to the right to Sabine's Gallery once again, all praise to the Mac
Here's what we know
Sabine likes: being swaddled... especially the SUPER SWADDLE a la Happiest Baby on the Block.
she also has incredible need to SUCK. it is insatiable. it is so much that max has decided to call her a monchichi. and if you don't know what a monchichi is, you should look them up. i bet youtube has their commercial on there. so in the last week we've been singing the monchichi song a lot around here.
we also know she is a double pooper. usually she'll poop, we'll change her, and in about three minutes she'll poop again. we call them earthquakes and aftershocks. sometimes though, the aftershocks are bigger than the earthquakes. when my mom was here it was perfect because she saved all the poops for my mom but now we're both getting them. i guess that's what babies do. she also is NOT willing to wait around the three minutes in her dirty diaper for round two. she will pitch a serious FIT if her diaper is dirty (which is reasonable, i don't want to sit around in that either). and so we can't just use one diaper for both rounds. the second diaper seems like a waste but if it keeps her happy that's fine. i am DYING to switch to cloth, but am waiting until i have some cloth ones that will fit her and until i'm totally operational as a person and can go up and down the stairs as much as needed and can carry the laundry etc. still a little longer on the resting thing.
the crying for the most part has been related to poops so far but i think it's starting to spread out. we were lucky in that the first week and a half she seriously slept almost all day long. i had to wake her up to feed her and even then she'd nurse for five minutes, pass out and sleep for another 3 hours. nancy said it's ok as long as she's gaining weight to just let her make her own sleep schedule and if she sleeps for 6 hours, she sleeps for 6 hours. (that's kind of good for me). it's starting to change already and it took some serious work for us to get her to nap this afternoon but she finally did go to sleep and we're seeing how long it lasts. she partied all morning!
she is a seriously good nurser and with that incredible suck is very efficient at it. my milk came in with tons to spare. i could nurse twins according to nancy. and with a good latch at the beginning and her excellent eating skills we haven't had any problems. sore for the first two days and now we're fine.
and that's what we know thus far. that and we LOVE LOVE LOVE her. she's too cute
in the meantime of taking care of her i've been painting her name and info on her birth tub and will take a photo before we take the tub back to nancy.
