Thanksgiving 2008

Thanksgiving is usually spent with max's side of the family in philadelphia. this year plans changed and his parents ended up coming to philly this week instead of last. so we were going to stay at home and not really do anything, but at the last minute i called my mom to ask if we could join my side of the family's festivities. i just didn't want to stay in our house and have pretty much no celebration. AND i knew with my mom's side of the family there would be no shortage of baby holders even if she was fussy... max and i might actually get to rest at the same time!

on thursday at noon we walked from my parents' house to my grandmother's apartment and of course after no real nap that morning, sabine fell asleep on the way. so when we got there we made a little bed for her in a laundry basket and max and i sat together at one end of the table with her beside us. we were the last going through the buffet line because we were figuring it all out. and by the time i sat down to eat my cousin on my left was almost done. then, sabine woke up and wasn't happy with not having a view of the table. so i picked her up and was holding her. again max and i were going back and forth on who should hold, who should eat. i looked at molly who was done by now and handed sabine over. and so began sabine's long trip around the thanksgiving table. Molly passed to her sister Mauren.. Mauren passed to my sister Liz.. Liz passed to her boyfriend Jamie. then sabine reached the opposite end where uncle jacob was sitting and he bounced her for a long time. then she briefly went to my uncle mark who passed her to my grandmother, gigi. by this time she was starting to get a little irritated and probably wondering where her parents were. so then she went to my aunt marty who spoke to her like she was an adult and tried to ascertain the problem while allowing her to fuss a little (and allowing me and max to get seconds). next in line were my dad and mom and to be honest i'm not sure if they actually got to hold her but eventually she did make it all the way back around to max and me and by that time we were plenty stuffed. Happy Thanksgiving! (the other really nice thing about being at my parents' house this time was that when sabine woke up at 6 am my mom was already up so i just brought sabine to the living room, handed her over, and went back to bed. NICE!)

and then this week we made it to philly. 5 hour drive for us but she slept the whole way except when we stopped for gas, diapering and snacks for all (tyco refused his soft pretzel though). in philly sabine got to meet her great grandparents, max's granny and pop. they were delighted and she was too. she gave granny a good smile on monday night and pop got one this morning. (she is still a little confused about glasses though). sabine also very sweetly got to meet all the ladies from her grandfather ed's office. and she got a little bit of grandy and mr. ed time ( or as adrian says ghandi and yetti, he he) and finally she met her great aunt nedra and uncle bruce. a very full schedule then a quick turn around and drive back (she slept the whole way back today, hooray!)

and of course for everything, we didn't take pictures. finally on the way out the door today we stopped and got one with her and granny and pop. so sweet!
