so of course i'm trying to hold on to all of the wonderful fun and teaching i experienced during the weekend by keeping my home practice up and running. with a 5 month old that is much easier said than done.
yesterday was a challenge. the first time i tried i was able to do one lunge and one down dog, then she started crying and was up from a nap. a little while later i went back to the mat and got to work for about 30 minutes before she woke up. this time i tried our 'yoga-zone' trick. i set her up at the end of the mat (see below) with a toy and kept at my practice. it worked for about 10 minutes and then she was done. i have had that work for about 40 minutes before, but i have to be flexible with her. that unfolded into 'astronaut baby' where i hold her upside down and she checks herself out in the mirror and into some itsy bitsy yoga for her... but i still wasn't done with my practice. so finally about an hour later she slept again for 30 minutes in her crib. and again i went back to the mat and finally finished up. i was sure to give myself a nice long savasana as that's really what i need most these days.
so i did it. i got in all my yoga, and nothing else was accomplished but at least that got done. i was talking with another teacher recently about what serious dedication it takes to keep at the practice once a baby comes into the picture. some days it is there, some days it isn't. today, no yoga. but tomorrow it will be back hopefully. and we'll see what the cast brings on thursday.
here she is at the end of the mat a few days ago:

sharing some yoga time with mommy.

That's kind of how it is for me with anything I want to do that's not baby-centered: like having my Jesus time or trying to write. You kind of take what you can get. My big thing is trying not to get frustrated about it. Usually if I'm frustrated, I just have to remember the order of importance. I am much lower on the totem pole than I used to be! Not to say it's not important to have the YOU time, but just that often, baby simply has to take precedence. It's always great to be able to get out like you did with people watching S, and I love that you include her in yoga!!
