The diagnosis on the computer... DEATH by video card. apparently the video card died in my computer and whenever i started up the computer the screen would go all misaligned until finally the whole thing would overheat and go blank. fixing this problem seems like it should be easy, but my computer was just old enough (3.5 years) to have the video card installed into the logic board which means the entire thing would have to be taken apart and put back together with a replacement video card. wondering how much a replacement video card is? $900. yes, $900 -- before labor to do the work OR the cost of a brand new computer. so the computer is going to the big farm in the sky where all dead MACs go. (maybe we'll sell it back to them to be refurbished... who knows)
that news came just as we were leaving for the beach. so we let it alone for that week.
this week it's NEW computer time. last night we went to the apple store and got a new laptop (instead of the desk top) for me to use. this solves two problems i've had lately. one, obviously it gets me back on the computer and TWO without a desktop taking up my entire desk i can move my sewing machine to my desk and sewing projects can take over my studio/office rather than having them take over the dining room. much peace will come from straightening the dining room i hope.
today will be the real moment of truth. today we'll try to transfer all my info (including ALL of sabine's baby pictures) from the old computer to the new laptop. hopefully all will go well and i haven't doomed my child to having no record of herself save from the blog. BUT let this be a warning to everyone to remember to back up your information. NOW.
until the new laptop is up and running i'm still on max's work one... doing what i can with the few photos i'd uploaded to photobucket before my old computer found the end. and probably still a few more text only posts. oh well.
