Racer...Yogini...Little Lady...& Baby: A Flapper Duck

Let me just say, Sabine, LOVED halloween last night. she LOVED it! even if all of the adults we met couldn't quite figure out what she was, she had a great time. last year she was barely 2 weeks old so she couldn't do anything. this year we decided to dress her as a duck because 'duck' is one of her favorite words. she can also 'quack' and she LOVES ducks. we also decided that if we were going trick-or-treating with a 1 year old (as in, using our child to get lots of candy) we'd better dress ourselves. so with about 2 seconds before we left home we threw together little costumes. i was a black cat (sans ears, no time) and max was a racer. i know, very original, but what can you do with no notice? about halfway through the night, when i'd been carrying sabine for about 30 minutes or so i figured i could have been the cat that got the canary... but nobody asked what i was anyway. so her duck costume (pictures below) was a flapper headband and a feather boa over her yellow onesie and bright orange pants. lots of people asked if she was a flapper and some thought she was a princess. so we decided maybe she was a flapper duck. luckily, right at the end of the night we went to the beer and wine store and a little boy there looked over at her and said 'she's a DUCK!' so i know the kids got it even if the grownups didn't.
here's how sabine's 2nd halloween went down...
first we went to katie and shannon's house for a quick trick-or-treat stop. luckily we texted in advance because they were only just arriving home when we got there. but they were happy to let us in and then sabine waddled her way all around their house. she wanted to take home their remote controls but we convinced her to get candy instead.
from there we stopped my my aunt marty's house which is now a total studio. uncle mark and my cousin molly are both artists and the house is completely taken over with art. it's actually quite beautiful... but sabine wanted to take home art supplies and cat treats... again we convinced her to take some candy. (i just love that molly was being a retro mauren costume called : Miss Elleneous.... SO mauren, and SO molly, HA!)

then we went home and i figured we'd hit a house or two on our street but max had different ideas. i think he wanted to hit every house in the neighborhood. we compromised by going to the sweet spots that we knew about. i scooped up sabine, grabbed a small container of cheerios and we were out the door. we walked up and down the neighborhood all over. she was happy as can be with both hands in the container of cheerios.
we lucked out because it had rained all day but by trick-or-treat time it had cleared and it was almost 80 degrees with a beautiful full moon.. perfect for halloween! so while we were trick-or-treating she LOVED seeing all the kids around. she LOVED seeing all the people on the street. and she really really loved seeing all the dogs that were coming to the door too. i think her highlights were the dogs and all the pumpkins. and what about all the scary stuff? no problem. she wasn't afraid of ANYTHING.
finally around 8 we made it back to our house and everyone had another little snack. then we tucked out tired but happy little duck into bed. i think it was a great night for everyone. best 2nd halloween she could ask for!
