One of my goals this fall (it is now officially fall you know) is to spend more time outside and in Nature. Outside in my neighborhood doesn't exactly count as Nature. So yesterday morning Max was organizing his ideas for the day. We were talking about going to get some supplies for Sabine's birthday party when Sabine started talking about the snake she saw when we were hiking in Maine. Suddenly our whole plan changed and we decided to go for a hike by the James River in the morning. It was a perfect morning for it. Clear and not too hot. Sabine did great in the backpack and enjoyed looking at the ducks. Her one request was to go WAY out into the river to stand on the rocks or see the ducks closer up.
Later we stopped on one rock and let her out to walk around. She promptly dipped her new pink shoe into the river and had to take it off ... Ok, that was probably my fault. But she loved walking on the rock and splashing her feet in the water. She really really wanted to swim and was bummed that swimming wasn't on the agenda! I was a little worried that we'd be isolated out there, but I was happily surprised to find lots of people out walking their dogs and enjoying the river at Pony Pasture that morning. Hopefully we'll do it again sometime soon. And, yes, going out to party by the river definitely counts as getting into Nature.
