OK, Plenty of folks have asked for pics of the new house. So here are some. This is the moment when I think the blog is going to take a turn from family life into becoming a home improvement and home decorating blog -- this could possibly last the next 20 years!!!! This is our first "project house." This house isn't absolutely perfect, it isn't move in ready with just painting to be done like our last house, but we are both very excited about the changes we will be making. I feel like this house really really just needs us to come in and love it up.
So here is the first floor.
Kitchen - this is how it was when we bought it. As of today it is a huge hole with NOTHING in it. We're starting with a kitchen remodel because I just could not figure this thing out and it was in dire need of some help! It is a large space with some funky things going on in it. And it has a bathroom with a shower off on the side. So that's nice for visitors who don't want to climb the stairs. The bathroom won't be bothered during the renovation, but the funky track lighting had to GO!
Here is the living room from two different angles. It is a very long room and the only real downfall is that the front door is in the very center of the room. It works out well though as we divided the room into two different spaces, a TV area and then a space with the piano and eventually a reading chair or small desk or something. The sofa here has been sitting in our basement at the old house for 7 years because it didn't fit in the living room there. It's from the house Max owned when we first met, so we're happy it fits in this house. Eventually we'll add some color in this room either on the walls or in a rug or something. It's kind of bland at the moment.
Off the living room and before the kitchen is a little nook area. Right now it's holding our fridge so that we can keep some food in the house. Just in front of where the fridge is now are some stairs going up and some stairs going down to an outside door and then further down to the basement. Once the fridge isn't there anymore I'll turn this little nook into a landing pad for bags, keys, shoes etc. Almost like a mudroom, but not to get muddy.
Off the living room, to the left of the fireplace, is the dining room. It's yellow. Not our favorite choice. We hope to do something cool with wallpaper or a great color in there. The yellow is definitely NOT staying. Right now it has the old kitchen island in it (on the right side of the photo) which is serving as our makeshift pantry and countertop during the kitchen remodel. The glass door leads into the kitchen and the bathroom in the kitchen is to the right directly as you enter the room from that door. Through the window you can see out to our deck and back yard.
Finally on the first floor is the PLAYROOM!!! Hooray! Finally a space to put Sabine's toys that is not in the middle of our living room. This is an addition just off the dining room. So in the photo above you'd go to the right through the door and end up in the playroom. The playroom is the most unpacked in the house excluding Sabine's bedroom. It is definitely not anywhere near being organized or easy to use. But it is up and running. Hooray!
So there's an intro to the first floor of the house. I'll give updates as we go along.
