So here's how the story goes that we find out we are pregnant.
first, i'm convinced we are pregnant. the home pregnancy tests do not agree. even when i take one once every six hours they still do not agree.
wednesday afternoon and evening my stomach is killing me (as related to plumbing issues, arg!) so i finally say to myself 'if this isn't pregnancy, SOMEthing is going on, i'd better call the doctor' so i make an appointment for thursday morning and eat a huge spinach salad for lunch.
thursday morning 8:30 am appointment, of course, my belly is FINE. my doc checks me out and pronounces that i have cured myself with spinach, nothing to worry about. me: 'so, well, we're also working on the baby thing' and she doesn't sound convinced. but she offers a blood test.
so down to the lab where i'm hoping we ARE pregnant so i don't end up paying a co-pay to see the doctor every month for false alarms. the phelbotomist is extremely nice and absolutely unable to get any blood to flow from my right arm. i have a sweet bruise from that one. left arm is more reliable.
home again. thursday afternoon i practice yoga with my fried vicki and tell her 'no, i'm not pregnant' and we talk and laugh over her pregnancy story. she advises against forward folds and twists in the first 6 weeks or so. and i go home and tell max, i think i was wrong, they're testing but i think we'll try again later.
thursday evening on our walk we have a long discussion about letting go of 'trying' and just relaxing and that i can't spend the next months or YEARS even saying 'well, IF i'm pregnant 6 months from now i'll have to plan this a little differently etc.'
i get home from errands on friday and the doctor office has called. i call back. she's busy. she calls back.
nurse: ' good news, you are pregnant'
me: 'no way, you are kidding'
nurse: 'no, i'm looking at the results right here, you are pregnant'
me: ' i can't believe it, i was so convinced i wasn't'
and then she says she won't get the results for HOW pregnant i am until monday and she'll call then.
i hang up and walk around the house for a while saying 'oh my god and holy crap' a lot
when max gets home and i tell him he high fives me! Sweet!
