So here's what happened with prenatal vitamins. first one of my girlfriend's Ob/Gyns told her any woman our age should be on them whether she is trying to conceive or not. because you never know what is going to happen and they can only improve your hair and nails. so a while before this baby thing was a reality i started on my Pink CVS brand prenatal vitamins. with no complaints.
Then we got pregnant and everyone kept asking : "are you on prenatal vitamins" yes yes yes. absolutely. not to mention my mom is the ultimate Folic Acid cheerleader. she's like a pusher for folic acid. and i understand it does prevent birth defects. (actually, when i was taking a human sexuality class in college where the professor was promoting good sex for college students AKA not just hooking up, my mom sent a huge box of vitamins to the class and she said she was promoting healthy sex, she is serious about this stuff). so i just kept on with the store brand.
until, Nancy asked well, what kind are you taking? and i told her the generic. she sent me in search of the health food store brand because they are more like food and easier on the body. but she warned me, some of them require you to take a pill 6 times a day!!! i don't know about you but i can't schedule my life like that enough to remember to take a pill 6 times a day.... i barely remember to brush my hair once a day some days.
so i went to ET and picked out a vitamin. i carefully scanned labels because they are more expensive there. and i found one with 60 pills in the jar. and i thought 'SWEET! 60 day supply, not too expensive' and we started on those. first of all they were like army green and the size of horse pills (not small and pink like the CVS ones, i think max's boy vitamins should be blue to match) AND they had a horrible metallic after taste. yuk! after three days of one a day i finally read the label and realized i'd accidentally bought the SIX TIMES A DAY variety. YUCK! so then i did a horrible job of trying to get in 6 a day. i think i got 5 on my best days. and on top of it all my urine turned GREEN. luckily with taking almost 6 a day that batch was used up quickly
for my next stop at ET i found some good once a day ones and they are YELLOW (so nothing changes color) and there's no crazy after taste. so i think i can handle these. so far so good.

Yeah, I was actually taking the same pink CVS ones and was scolded, so my dad was able to get me free ones from this company he has credit with. It was two packs of three each per day. Yuck! But at this point, I'm also taking alfalfa and evening primrose oil, so my pill intake is like 12 a day or something insane like that. The alfalfa is the worst--it's basically grass. Sometimes they make me gag. I also took fish oil until 32 weeks. I don't know why 32 weeks, but I was supposed to stop after that. This better be a healthy baby after all these pills!! :)
