Well, ok she's three months old now. and while the napping thing is a challenge she has new interests and new skills to report on.
her biggest thrill these days is sitting up. i may have made a mistake by introducing her to this idea because now it's all she wants to do. laying down to play is NOT nearly as fun as sitting up to play. so if she isn't sitting up she will spend a lot of time doing crunches in an attempt to sit up. it is actually quite funny and if she's on the changing table with her shirt up you can see her little abs kicking in to support her. i'm trying to convince her to roll to one side then push with her arm to sit up, but so far she seems to think the pilates sit-ups are better. i mean, why roll to your side if you want to be sitting UP? so we spend a lot of time holding her hands and helping her sit up. when she gets to her bum she's delighted... AND since she's all cloth diapered all the time she has a lot of surface area to try to balance on. she is not to the point of balancing sitting up on her own. she also loves the bebepod from chris and jin (max calls it the beebop). because she can sit up without our help. and we like it during dinner time when she can sit ON the table while we eat and she's usually pretty happy for a while in it.
she also still LOVEs to have her clothes and diapers changed. get her half-naked on the changing table and she will party for hours. i've definitely drawn out diaper changes for 20 minutes or more just because i know as soon as i take her off the table she'll be grumpy so i'd rather just play with her there. we think she might be a girly girl since she likes to change clothes so much.
and yesterday we found out another girly trait. it has been SO cold here we haven't been able to get out for walks with her and we know she has cabin fever. so to beat that yesterday we took her to the indoor mall. (as opposed to the two outdoor fun malls). i plopped her in the bjorn and ran from the car into the store. as soon as we walked inside a HUGE smile spread across her face and she was happy almost the entire time we were there. she only complained when we stopped shopping so i could eat.
she can't quite get a laugh going just yet. she smiles really big and does a sort of half chuckle. but she has gotten much more expressive with her voice and with crying. sometimes i'm sure she's just 'crying' to try out the noises she can make. i think she's beginning to realize the power of her voice in getting what she wants. luckily her wants these days are completely reasonable and she isn't begging us for ponies and ice cream.
and she pretty much loves for us to entertain her for as much of the day as possible. one of her favorites is listening to max become 'the human beat box' and i have to say i am EXTREMELY envious of his talent in this department as i have wanted to be able to beat box for a while and now there's actually a reason for it. then she loves to bounce and sometimes she likes to look at toys and sometimes she hates them. we'll see what tomorrow brings.
and her hips were checked out and they are just totally fine so that's good too.
and as for me. 3 months out i can fit in my skinny jeans and my stomach is starting not to look like a deflated balloon. my yoga is coming back when i have time to practice. and on thursday when i was practicing i felt my ligaments shift back into place on my right leg/hip. my SI joint is still out of whack but with yoga and less relaxin in my system it's getting better. i have no idea whether i've "lost the baby weight" but i'm not so concerned. i was a little on the skinny side for me when i got pregnant. so whatever. and i'm starting to build the baby carrying muscles in my arms so that's kind of fun. and that's where we are with things. i'm dreaming of the day when i can have a baby in my house and also do something like laundry, make dinner, clean up a little... not to mention practice yoga or quilt or check email earlier than 8 pm. but i know she's young and if nothing else life will change. someday i'll look back fondly on the many hours spent holding her while she sleeps.
